Alaska's state insect is a dragonfly. Actually it is the four spotted chaser, which is indeed a dragonfly. With our long days and abundant rain we have THRILLIONS of insects hatching out all over the freaking place. By August we are weary of the whole thing especially the horse flies and then...... (drum roll please)

They are the ultimate slayer of itty bitty biting things. They hover with all wings going in different directions and grab those suckers and haul them to a landing place, and dispatch them with great fanfare.
